The Blaze noted a recent Gallup poll that reveals only three in 10 Americans take the Bible as the literal word of God. This means seven in 10 deny it. They either think it should not be taken literally or that it is a collection of fables.
Let that sink in a minute.
70% of Americans Deny We Have The Literal Word of God!
Since the early 20th Century the United States has been moving away from God’s word and toward a more secular philosophy. It appears to be accelerating at a rapid pace. And, something we need to realize is that the 70 percent that do not take the Bible as God’s literal word did not form that conclusion yesterday. It has taken years for this ideology to surface. In another 10 to 20 years what will the numbers look like? Answer: Great Britain; where only 35 percent even claim a belief in God.
The Bible is the focus of relentless attacks in the media, public education, entertainment, society in general, and political circles. It is also becoming a target in the court systems. Those few of us who still see it as the literal word of God need to speak out with boldness (Phil. 1:20). Let us not be ashamed of the gospel of Christ, but stand up and defend the truth (Rom. 1:16).
While we may not be able to reverse the trends or convert society, let us make it our aim to instill conviction in our children (Eph. 6:4). Instruct them in the scriptures. “Teach them diligently…when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up…write them on the doorposts of your house” (Deut. 6:7-9).
