Satan attacked Jesus in the wilderness immediately after John baptized Him (Matt. 3:13-17). Luke states that there were 40 days of temptation, followed by three specific ones that were very challenging (Luke 4:1, 2).

The Lord’s temptation was for our benefit. He set the example of how to overcome Satan’s schemes and helps us relate to Him. Or, to put it another way, it allows us to see and accept that He knows exactly what we face.

We will see in this episode that (1) Jesus was tempted like us (2) He overcame temptation by using God’s word (3) Jesus received everything Satan offered, but according to God’s will, not the devil’s devising.
