Every generation and nation needs a hero. People long for a champion. The timid, feckless, and fearful are despised… or worse, ignored. This is true for secular as well as sacred causes. Some appreciate and praise the hero; others envy and criticize. This what happened to David.
Before David became king, he was a hero to a nation in distress; a brave champion willing to take a bold stand. His life was certainly not without fault, but he is still described as a man after God’s own heart (1 Sam. 13:14).
In this episode we want to examine the event that “made” David; that which put him in the national spotlight and cemented his reputation for his generation and beyond – slaying Goliath.
